denise guerzoni strawinsky

Denise Strawinsky is the daughter of the Swiss painter Stéphanie Guerzoni and Joseph Ange Guerzoni. Her father died in 1920 and her mother remarried Joseph Palivec, Czech diplomat and poet. She then lives in Paris. Her father-in-law, an informed bibliophile, communicated his love of books to her. She took courses at the Ecole du Louvre and obtained her artistic bookbinding diploma in 1935. The same year, through Gina, daughter of the painter Gino Severini, Denise met Theodore Strawinsky at Jacques Maritain's in Meudon. They married the following year, on June 29, 1936. The childless couple adopted Catherine [grave 105], daughter of Ludmila ([grave 346] sister of Theodore) and her husband Youri Mandelstamm, both deceased. Denise taught bookbinding and practiced her profession until 1962, when she was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the hip. A stay of two years in a clinic in Leysin (Switzerland) and total immobilization will allow a favorable evolution of the disease, with the only sequelae, the blockage of the left hip. She then gave up her job and devoted herself completely to her husband's work.
