Sergueï Malolentenkoff

Son of an émigré archpriest, S.N. Maloletenkov studied architecture in Paris (DPLG degree). He was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in 1945 and graduated on 21 February 1951. Having married a Swedish woman around 1950, he had close contacts with Sweden. His career is very little known and includes associations with two architects: Laroque – a nephew of Katia Granoff – and Henry Guibout. He built the Hôtel Méridien Montparnasse in Paris and with 3 other architects (Guillaume Gillet, Yves Betin and Henri Guibout). He designed the Palais des Congrès de Paris (a business, conference and entertainment venue) as well as the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile hotel (formerly the Hôtel Concorde La Fayette) which is part of the same complex. These buildings were inaugurated in April 1974. With its height of 137 meters (190 m with the antenna), the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile hotel is one of the tallest French hotels after the Tour Part-Dieu in Lyon. It was a very tough construction site for Malo, and which could have contributed to the heart attack that took him away quite young (around sixty years old).
