Baron Vladimir von Knorring

He trained in the Corps des Pages from 1873. In 1882, he was appointed second lieutenant in the Chevaliers-Gardes regiment. In 1891, he was assigned to a signals unit (telegraph) to be trained in telegraph and fencing. Appointed captain in 1892, he was assigned the following year as commander of the regimental telegraph station and the training unit. From 1896 to 1902 he commanded a squadron of the Guard, then the regiment's reconnaissance unit. In 1902, he was appointed aide-de-camp to the commander-in-chief of the Guard units of the Saint Petersburg military region, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich. Appointed colonel in 1904, he remained aide-de-camp to Grand Duke Vladimir after the latter's retirement. From 1909 to 1916, he was court master of the Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna. He was promoted to major general in 1911 and lieutenant general in 1916. He was decorated with numerous Russian and foreign orders between 1897 and 1913. After the revolution, he emigrated to France and died on October 20, 1938 at the Maison Russe in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois.
